Drop a cover photo — kids playing

Every holiday, the same question lands in our WhatsApp: “What do I do with them at home on the off-weeks?” Fair. Camp is five days, the break is longer, and the tablet is always right there, glowing.

So we asked our mentors for the activities they actually use — low prep, cheap or free, and reliably absorbing. Here are the ten that win every time.

1
The cardboard citySave every box for a week, then hand over tape and scissors. Houses, roads, an airport — it grows for days.
2
Kitchen scientist hourVinegar + bicarbonate + food colouring = a volcano. Add a tray and the cleanup is part of the fun.
3
The restaurant takeoverKids write the menu, set the table and "cook" (assemble) one course. You tip generously in compliments.
4
Garden bug safariA jar, a magnifying glass if you have one, and a rule: everything goes back where it was found.
5
Sheet-and-chairs denThe classic. Lunch tastes better inside a den; this is settled science.
6
Family radio showOne phone, voice memos only. Interviews, jingles, the weather report from the balcony. Play it at dinner.
7
Wash everything dayBikes, shoes, the dog, the gate. Soapy water + a sunny morning = two hours, minimum.
8
The 20-thing scavenger huntSomething red, something older than you, something that makes a sound… Write it once, reuse forever.
9
Teach-the-grown-up hourThey pick a skill they know and teach it to you, properly, with a lesson plan. Prepare to be graded.
10
Do absolutely nothingBoredom is the runway. Give it twenty minutes and watch what takes off.

And for the on-weeks…

That's our job. Eight themed camps, mentors who love the mess, and a Friday show every week.
